We prepare our members to serve as leaders and catalysts for change in the community through extensive volunteer and leadership training. This training has a ripple effect as our members go on to serve as Board members, staff, and volunteers of other nonprofit organizations. The vast majority of our members volunteer with other nonprofits and local PTAs/PTOS. Our members have served on the Boards of Monmouth County Arts Council, Monmouth Day Care, HABCore, the Monmouth County Historical Association, and Family & Children’s Service, among others.

We invest in helping other nonprofits access the training they need to better serve their clients. We secure renowned collaboration and technology experts from across the country to share their knowledge and experience to train local community staff members and volunteers. JLMC offers these trainings to community nonprofits for little or no charge.

We’re that much stronger when we work together.

FAQs

Why Is JLMC's Work Important to Monmouth County?

The JLMC impacts our local community in two important ways:

  1. We prepare our members to serve as leaders and catalysts for change in the community through extensive volunteer and leadership training.
  2. We build collaborative networks across our community.

The Junior League of Monmouth County has an 80+ year legacy of creating meaningful and long-lasting change in our community through nonprofit collaboration. Based on the 2017 Monmouth County Needs Assessment, the resources are available to solve our community’s problems, now we need to work together. Our strategies are outcome-driven, comprised of well-designed tactics that include a combination of advocacy, public education/awareness, capacity building, and grant-making to sustain impact over multiple years. The JLMC is built on collaborative community networks aimed at meaningful and long-lasting community change.

Whose Lives Are Made Better by the JLMC?

Thousands of Monmouth and Ocean county residents are touched by the JLMC efforts each year through direct and indirect service initiatives. For nearly a century, JLMC has been instrumental in meeting current community needs. Our members commit a collective 20,000 service hours to the JLMC and over a dozen partner organizations. Services provided include ensuring access to nutritious food, education enrichment programs for underserved children, social opportunities for our LGBTQ youth, and providing critical training for current and prospective nonprofit board members.

We invest in helping other nonprofits access the training they need to better serve their clients. We secure renowned collaboration and technology experts from across the country to share their knowledge and experience to train local community staff members and volunteers. JLMC offers these trainings to community nonprofits for little or no charge.

We advocate on behalf of women and children in the state in the areas of health, education, and the environment through a non-partisan committee. We have been successful in securing partnerships with elected officials across both parties at the local, state, and national levels to both inform and influence legislation for lasting change.

Why Is the JLMC Unique?

Our commitment to training sets the Junior League apart from other nonprofits with support from our affiliation with the Association of Junior Leagues International. The training we offer includes:

  • Member training includes board service, donor stewardship, volunteer management, fundraising, and communications.
  • Leadership training on strategic planning, community impact, fiscal responsibility, and engaging volunteers.
  • Experiential training through hands‐on opportunities to engage in and lead committees throughout the JLMC.

The JLMC is a 100% volunteer‐driven organization. Our members make a commitment to help the JLMC achieve its goals.

Over 50% of our revenue comes from events. We strive to secure donations and underwriting to minimize our fundraising expenses. Sponsorships are a critical source of revenue that maximize the profitability of our events. Another 17% of our income comes from member dues. Other sources of income include rental income from our headquarters building, grants, and other donations.
