Honoree

Linda W. Bricker

Linda W. Bricker has been an Active Member of the Junior League for over 40 years. She joined the Junior League of Chicago where she served as the Chair of the Provisional class, the Education & Training and Nominating, Committees and as the Treasurer, among other roles. Many of the skills she gained in JLC benefitted her in in work as Director of the International Visitors Center of Chicago and later at the Chicago History Museum.

Linda was slated to be Executive Vice President of the JLC when the family transferred in 1998 to Monmouth County for a wonderful job opportunity for her husband, Jay. After settling their four children, Linda transferred her membership to the Junior League of Monmouth County. She felt warmly welcomed and was immediately taken with the headquarters building. She continues to be an Active member and has served in a variety of positions including Marketing and Development Chair, State Public Affairs Delegate and Secretary and two consecutive terms as JLMC President. In 1910 she joined the Steering Committee of the Running & Winning program as a representative of the JLMC and continues to be involved Chairing the Facilitator Committee of that program designed to teach High School Junior girls how to find their voices and impact change in their communities.

Among the other volunteer activities Linda has been engaged in beyond the JLMC, Linda took her volunteer leadership skills to the Monmouth County Historical

Association where she served as a Trustee for 14 years, including nine consecutive terms as Board President. Her devotion to the preservation of historic buildings drove her to launch and oversee the JLMC’s Building Opportunities capital campaign during her presidency which has allowed the JLMC to restore and make improvements to its 1906 headquarters–a building which originally served as home to the Rumson Fire Company and which retains many of its original features. The addition of the Joan Lucky Library on the 2nd floor allows the JLMC to collect its historic documents and artifacts. Linda has continued to care for the Building & Grounds at 55 Center Street and preserve the JLMC’s history over the last decade. She has been recognized previously with the JLMC’s highest honor—the Outstanding Leaguer Award. Linda maintains that the League has always given her so much more than she could ever return.

Gail Van Winkle

Gail Van Winkle joined the New York Junior League in 1980. She served on the senior newsletter committee as an active member and co-chaired the 1983 class of 188 provisionals. Gail and her husband settled in Stuart’s hometown of Little Silver, and as Gail says, “I am living proof of one of the greatest benefits to belonging to the network of Junior Leagues. I transferred to the JLMC and was immediately welcomed by like-minded women who became life-long friends.” Gail’s passion is graphic design and marketing.

She served as Marketing Director on the JLMC Board of Directors and Marketing Chair for the “Broadway Showhouse” in Long Branch. Gail served as president during the millennial year and received Outstanding Leaguer in 2002.

In 2016, Gail joined the sustainer ranks, still supporting fundraising and volunteer projects and helping with marketing. She also served on the JLMC Board of Directors as the Sustainer Representative. Currently, she helps to organize the book club, which she loves.

Because of her connection to numerous non-profits in New Jersey, Gail has been a volunteer, served on numerous boards, and worked professionally as a graphic designer and event planner for many organizations. One of her favorites was being the PTO president for her daughter Kendall’s school.

Over the last 40 years, Gail has designed the previous JLMC logo, brochures, newsletters, invites, and posters. She was happy to give back to a wonderful organization that has given so much to her!
