Frequently Asked Questions

Why do women join the Junior League?

Three of Many Good Reasons to Join the JLMC!

  • Community Service: For 70 years, the Junior League of Monmouth County (JLMC) has striven to make a difference in our county by identifying specific needs and creating projects, frequently in conjunction with community partners, to meet those needs. The JLMC's current focus area is Empowering Women and the League is launching a variety of projects designed to give life skills to women at risk in our area. In addition to a variety of projects within its focus area, the JLMC manages done-in-a-day projects throughout the year such as a Saturday Soup Kitchen in November, school or art supply drives in the Fall, and beach clean ups in the Spring.
  • Leadership and Training Opportunities: JLMC offers members continuing opportunities to acquire new skills and develop their own potential for leadership through special workshops and seminars. Members are encouraged to take leadership positions that provide for personal growth and skill building through experiential training. Many members find that volunteer work in the JLMC helps to "fill the gaps" in their resumes in between jobs or while they are at home raising a family.
  • Lasting Friendships: Do you want to meet other motivated women interested in improving their community? Are you new to Monmouth County? Are you a new mom looking to connect with some grown up activity? Are you recently retired and looking to put your skills to continued good use? The JLMC is a diverse group of over 300 women of all different ages and backgrounds who donate an average of 25,000 hours annually. Strong bonds of friendship develop while serving on a League project or committee, participating in training, working together to help others, or attending membership meetings and social events.

Do I have to be invited to join the JLMC?

No, the JLMC is open to anyone who has an interest and commitment to voluntarism.
